The Business Innovation and Investment program aims to enhance Australia's domestic business capabilities and diverse commercial expertise. It is designed to attract immigrants who demonstrate successful innovation and business history and can make significant contributions to the national innovation system and the Australian economy.
(1) 188A Business Innovation Stream: The applicant, the applicant’s partner, or applicant and applicant partner together, have total net business and personal assets of at least AUD 1.25 million. For 2 out of 4 fiscal years immediately, they must have owned more than 30% of total value of the business, and the annual turnover of the applicant's company must be over AUD750,000. Applicants agree and need to conduct business in Australia for 2 years. The stream is similar to the repealed Subcalss 163 and is particularly suitable for domestic small and medium-sized business owners.
(2) 188B Investor Stream: Applicants must have extensive investment and business experience, with successful investment or business background of at least 3 years. Through legitimate business or investment activities, you must make (on or after the time of application for this visa), a complying significant investment of at least AUD2.5 million, and must provide tax statements/delivery notes.
(3) 188C Significant Investor Stream: Applicants agree to invest AUD 5 million to Australia and hold it for three years to be eligible for permanent residency. The stream has no restrictions on language, age, or the source of funds, and does not require a points test. It's an ideal choice for individuals with high net worth.
Australian Business Immigration Subclass188 A and B use a points calculator. It considers personal and business net assets, company turnover, and other metrics. It also scores the applicant's age, education, English proficiency, and specific factors like business operations and technical contributions/patents. Applicants must first meet the basic requirements, score over 65 points (the passing score), submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect, and apply for state government sponsorship to have a chance at receiving an immigration invitation.
