Massive Queue Outside Melbourne Coles
Scene Descends into Chaos
Yesterday, at the normally quiet Coles in Tarneit Central, a suburb of Melbourne, an unexpected crowd gathered. Hundreds of people swarmed the supermarket entrance, forming a long queue and causing brief chaos — all because of one person…

It turned out that the commotion was caused by the visit of celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, often dubbed the “Indian Gordon Ramsay.”
He was at Coles to promote his newly launched “Arth” range of Indian food products, which are now available in 440 Coles stores across Australia.
Kapoor is a household name in the culinary world, with over 20 million followers across social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, X, and Instagram.
His cooking show, Khana Khazana, is the longest-running food program in Asia, and he has published over 200 bestselling cookbooks.
Although the supermarket was well aware of Chef Kapoor’s immense popularity among consumers, they were still surprised by the sheer number of shoppers who turned up just to catch a glimpse of the celebrity chef.

Joel Wishart, Coles' Senior Category Manager for International Foods, said:
“Kapoor is a global star, and it’s fantastic to see so many customers getting the chance to meet him at Coles.”

What surprised Coles even more was the overwhelming demand for the Arth authentic Indian range since its launch.
Coles noted that the release of the new product line comes at a time when India has overtaken China as the largest source country for new Australian citizens, with Indian migrants now making up the second-largest overseas-born population in Australia.
Anna Croft, Coles Chief Commercial Officer, said:
“Our customers have told us they want more variety, more global flavours, and simpler ways to cook authentic meals at home — and that’s exactly what we aim to deliver with the Arth range.
We know that as more customers look for easy ways to recreate authentic dishes at home, the international foods category is set for significant growth in Australia.”

Croft also revealed that, according to Coles data, customer demand for Asian and Indian foods is rapidly increasing — these two categories are currently the fastest-growing on the grocery shelves.

Croft said:
"These products take the hassle out of cooking, allowing you to enjoy authentic flavours without spending hours in the kitchen — no hard-to-find ingredients, no complicated steps."
Kapoor explained that the product range is designed to simplify the cooking process and help more Australians fall in love with Indian cuisine.
"My entire career has been about showing people that authentic Indian food can be both simple and delicious. The Arth range is an extension of that philosophy in Australia. It's made for everyone — whether you grew up with these flavours or are just curious to try something new. You don’t need special skills or fancy ingredients — just a love for good food."
