Meteorologists are issuing a warning that a massive cold front is about to hit Australia, with wet and cold weather affecting the entire country! Everyone, get ready for a challenging week ahead.
This week, a powerful cold front is sweeping through Australia, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and plummeting temperatures to all states.
Monday: The cold front first hit Western Australia, bringing with it wet conditions, sharp drops in temperature, and destructive winds.
Tuesday afternoon: The cold front began to move eastward, affecting South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales.
Regions at Risk: These areas could see heavy rainfall, powerful winds, and even snow and hail.
According to senior meteorologist Angus Hines, the winds will intensify as they move from South Australia towards the east. Some regions in Victoria could experience wind speeds as high as 80 km/h, while parts of Tasmania could see winds reaching 110 km/h.
In Victoria’s Horsham, winds of up to 150 km/h were recorded — a sign of just how severe this weather event is.
Affected Areas:
Melbourne’s northern suburbs
Mornington Peninsula
Dandenong Ranges
Otway Ranges
Surf Coast
Other areas include Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh, Daylesford, Falls Creek, Tullamarine, Yarra Glen, Sorrento, and Mt Baw Baw.
Potential Impacts: The high winds could cause fallen trees, broken branches, and power outages.
Snow and Hail: In addition to the strong winds, snow and hail are expected but not too severe.
Hines emphasized that July is already the coldest month in Australia, so even with temperatures being a couple of degrees lower than usual, the cold weather is definitely going to have a noticeable impact.
Today, the second cold front is moving across Western Australia, starting with Perth and gradually moving eastward towards Sydney. This new cold front is expected to bring yet another cold wave and heavy rainfall.
Hines' Insights: The second cold front is expected to bring more tropical moisture, which means wider and heavier rainfall than the first front.
Brisbane: Partly cloudy, with moderate chance of light rain; high of 22°C.
Sydney: Partly cloudy, possible rain in the evening; high of 20°C.
Canberra: Mostly cloudy with high chance of rain; high of 16°C.
Melbourne: High likelihood of rain and strong, damaging winds; high of 16°C.
Hobart: High chance of rain in the afternoon and evening; high of 17°C.
Adelaide: Showers and possibility of hail, accompanied by strong winds; high of 13°C.
Perth: Cloudy with a high chance of rain; high of 17°C.
Darwin: Light breeze and partly cloudy; high of 31°C.
With this extreme weather coming your way, make sure you’re prepared!
Windproof gear: Secure outdoor items and prepare for power outages.
Rain gear: Be ready for unexpected showers and possible hail.
Temperature check: Ensure your heating is working properly, and dress warmly.
This cold front will bring challenges, but staying informed and taking necessary precautions will help mitigate its impact. Stay safe, and brace for a week of intense weather!
