In less than two weeks, the early childhood education (ECT) occupation assessment will transition from AITSL to ACECQA.
The biggest change is that applicants who have completed at least one year of full-time higher education in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, the UK, or the US will be exempt from the IELTS 7.7.8.8 requirement.
However, according to the laws in most Australian states (except Queensland, ACT, NT, and Tasmania), if you want to work in an ECT title role, you still need to have teaching qualifications.
So, even though the ECT occupation assessment doesn't require IELTS 7.7.8.8, teaching qualifications registration is still required!
In Victoria, teaching registration is the simplest!
If you meet ACECQA’s course requirements and have studied in one of the six English-speaking countries, you can directly register as a VIT pre-service teacher. Early Childhood Education (GD) courses fully meet this requirement!
To transition from pre-registration to full registration, you only need to complete 80 days of teaching—and there are no language requirements!
In Western Australia, whether you are registering for pre-registration or full registration, as long as your early childhood education course is completed in one of the six English-speaking countries, you will be exempt from IELTS 7.7.8.8!
Although a 1-year GD course is not an ITE-certified course, it still allows you to register for pre-registration in WA.
If you have a teaching qualification from Victoria, you can apply for mutual recognition through the TRBWA (Teacher Registration Board of WA).
To get full registration, you need to meet the work requirements by working in a WA educational institution or another Australian or New Zealand school. However, there is no specific duration required for this teaching work.
For South Australia, you do need IELTS 7.7.8.8, but you can use the ISLPR exam as a substitute!
If you have a teaching qualification from Victoria, you may also try to apply for a mutual recognition to bypass the IELTS 7.7.8.8 requirement!
However, note that the GD early childhood course cannot directly register for South Australia qualifications. You can still try transferring from Victoria to South Australia for qualification recognition!
For full registration in South Australia, the teaching work requirement is quite high: you need to complete 200 days of teaching.
In New South Wales, you do need IELTS 7.7.8.8, and the highest exemption requires 3 years of full-time work experience to bypass the IELTS requirement!
However, NSW also has a mutual recognition channel that allows you to apply through NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) for your qualification recognition.
In Victoria and Western Australia, you can be exempt from IELTS as long as you have completed your studies in one of the six English-speaking countries.
In South Australia, you can bypass the IELTS requirement by transferring your qualifications from Victoria.
In New South Wales, 2 years of work experience can exempt you from IELTS, and there are also qualification recognition channels available to explore!
